Before my daily walk in the hills with our dog Boofie, I read a quote from Henry Miller: “Don’t look for miracles, you yourself are a miracle.”
I love that quote, because it feels so good to be a miracle.
I didn’t want to keep that thought all to myself, so in the hills I said: “Listen Boofie, maybe you won’t believe it, but we are miracles.”
He looked at me as if he would say: “I know that!” Of course, he was right. For animals, everything is a miracle. Only human beings use their logical mind, and because the logical mind defines everything that it can understand as natural, miracles become automatically supernatural.
Fortunately, we also have a heart, and the heart loves miracles. Isn’t it a miracle that we can fall in love, that we can forgive, that we can create children, relationships, and art. When we start living from our hearts we become living miracles. Boofie is already a living miracle, but I don’t tell him that, because he knows it already
